Sunday Funnies - Sunday Funnies (1971 Rare Earth)

Is this so called blue eye soul or what? The band was from Detroit area and made efforts to grow up the local clubs to be known wider. They did not manage with it so good. maybe they can be concidered as some kind of hidden pearl. Anyway, music is very ok. It is dedicated to Hrman Hesse, Johnny Carson, Piter Bruegel, Stanley Kubrick, Arthur C. Clarke, Kahlil Kibran and Jesus. Pictures on cover are by Bruegel and may propably have some connections with the original sources of this albums music. Don't know.

Song - Album (1970 MGM)

Very clever: album by Song. To my ears this Song is Beatles influenced powerpop. Producers are Curt Boettcher and Keith Olsen, who's name may tell someting to someone. Cover art is by Cal Schenkel whos greatest achievement after creating some Zappa's album covers was to be a short time boy friend to Sandy Hurvitz. Sandy! She is one of the most impressive artists ever. (Seek: Sandy Hurvitz Sandy's album is here at last). Back to this album. Mickey Rooney jr. plays rythm guitar on this. So what?

Ansley Dunbar Retaliation - Remains To be Heard (1970 Liberty)

Good Blues Rock (Not God Bless Rock - even if it is Easter just now Jukes, and you may read these wrong. Sorry! Good Blues Rock only) but unfortunately I have to say not the top. I was a little bit dissapointed with this, knowin Ansley Dunbar before I knew this as a drummer of Zappa's Mothers and there I like him a lot. This is good blues but maybe my expectations were too high. Ok, Ansley is one of my favourite drummers, but not present on all tracks in here. Anyway, this album is good enought to be digged up. And blessed by me. Nice playing with pronaunsing of words, okay, but I myself would not like to heir anyones outer ear as well as inner one too. So remains to be hear, not heir.

Swampgas - Swampgas (Buddah)

Artie Kornfeld, who was one of the main responsible on doin up the Woodstock Event, also found this band. Sorry my occasionally bad English. Have no time to think all the fu**ing syntax all the time. Swampgas is guite moody, minor key rock, but sometimes melodic like on The Waitin E Train Blue and mostly bluesy hardrock, maybe even some prog-elements to be heard in. Hmmm.. Not quite, but almost. Something is missing. Maybe the link. Grateful Dead? On vinyl Lp this is too rare to worth digging up but it is available on CD and maybe worth what they ask.

Inner Dialogue - A Man Has To Experience His Own Inner Being (1969 Ranwood)

Very special artificial product. What can I say... Music is floating on some barock style elements. This is hard to rate, sensitive light Californian artpop. Sunshine pop with thoughts of Jung!

Smith - The Group Called Smith (Dunhill)

Music from the small brown? I found Smith after finding it's main vocalist Gayle McCormick first. I like her voice. Smith is "just" a cover band, but one of the coolest. Listen to her singing. Wow! Sexy!

The National Gallery - Performing Musical Interpretations Of The paintings Of Paul Klee (1968 Philips)

Music inspired by the art of Paul Klee. Producer Roger Karshner and jazz musician Chuck Mancione composed the material together. Lyrics are by Karshner. A studio session. Very interesting.

Mashmakhan - Mashmakhan (1970 Columbia)

Best rock-jazz fusion you have never heard.

Shango - Trampin' (1970 Dunhill

Santana-style bluespsych rock from California. It's hard to say why this group did not break through. Maybe because of lack of promototion. This is much better that one could imagine by the cover "art". I'm sad to say that it is created by one of my favourite cover artists Cal Schenkel, who made many Zappa's album covers too.

J. D. Blackfoot - The Ultimate Prophecy (1970 Mercury)

This is music from Ohio Cleveland by J.D.Blackfoot aka Benjamin Franklin Van Dermot. The music is mostly acid-prog-psych tinged rock with some country flavour. Angel on the first side has some Radiohead sounds. At least it sounds to me like that. The Ultimate Prophecy begins the other side and kicks the music on good run. Album was one of those which did not make well when first released, but has later gained some kind on cult reputation among progheads and others. The whole other side of the album is excellent. Worth digging up!

The Love Generation - Groovy Summertime (1967 Imperial Liberty)

Paa-paa-pa-pop-po-paa-pa-paa-pa-pop-popop-paa... Sunshine pop from Californian hay barns.. oops... hay fields. "Walk with me and you will see what our lives were meant to be just a touch of love will make us free..." Sunny!

Andy Zwerling - Spiders In The Night (Kama Sutra)

One of my favourite ones and one of the hidden pearls or even lost gems. This album should be more known world wide. Music is folk pop accompanied by his guitar. Songs are classy.
